Imbolc First Spring Sabbat
Imbolc is the first of three spring Sabbats and the Festival of Brighit, the Maiden. Celebrate with joy and a feast made from recipes provided.
Light, noticeably, begins to overtake darkness on Imbolc, called Oimealg, by the Druids, which is the festival of lactating sheep. It’s derived from the Gaelic word oimelc meaning ewes’ milk. Livestock have either given birth to the first babies of the year or will soon do so. It’s the time of blessing seeds and consecrating farming tools. Imbolc marks the center of the dark half of the year and is the festival of the Maiden, Brighid, whose name means Bright One, High One, Bright Arrow and Power, from this day to Ostara, the spring equinox. It’s a time to prepare for growth and renewal.
Imbolc Celebration
Corn dollies are made from corn husks and put in baskets with white silk flowers. Hearth fires and candles are put out and re-lit. A besom, by the front door, symbolizes sweeping out the old and welcoming the new. Lit candles, in fireproof containers, are in every room of the house to honor the re-birth of the Sun.
Remove Yule evergreens from the home and burn them, clean the home and grounds. Gather around the altar and perform self-blessings and spiritual dedication. Meditate to go on an inner journey for Divine inspiration. Affirm the artist within.
Imbolc Craft: Create a Corn Dolly
Items needed: corn husks, six cotton balls, scissors, tacky glue and ribbon or yarn. Fold a strip of corn husk in half. Put or three cotton balls in the middle and twist the husk, tying it with yarn to make a head. Leave some husk in the front and back, beneath the head to make a torso. Fold two husks in half to make arms. Tie these at the ends to make hands. Put the arms around the husks that form the torso. Put three cotton balls in the torso and tie at the waist. Put several husks, around the waist, upside down, overlapping them. Tie at waist, then fold the husks so a skirt is formed. Tie these at the waist. Trim the edge of the skirt. Allow the doll to dry completely. Once it’s dry, the doll can be decorated. Hair can be made of yarn, a face painted and clothing added.

After Imbolc Feast Camaraderie
Women have decorated a chair by the hearth or mixed candles for Brighid. Put the corn dollies and white silk flowers, evergreens and violets in it to honor her. Open the door to welcome her into the home. May Brighid gives blessings to the house. Put out food and drink, such as buttered toast, grains, seeds and milk for her. Imbolc

By February, most of us are tired of the cold, snowy season. Imbolc reminds us that spring is coming soon, and that we only have a few more weeks of winter to go. The sun gets a little brighter, the earth gets a little warmer, and we know that life is quickening within the soil. Imbolc is celebrated on February 2nd.
Imbolc is a celebration of many things to many people, but one thing is clear -- for folks in the Northern Hemisphere, it's the halfway point between the dark of winter and the beginning of spring. The Roman celebration of Lupercalia, which takes place around this same time, brings with it a purification theme, as does the Christian celebration of Candlemas. This festival of light is the perfect time to honor the gods or goddesses of your hearth and home.
Spring is Coming!
Imbolc is a holiday with a variety of names, depending on which culture and location you're looking at. In the Irish Gaelic, it's called Oimelc, which translates to "ewe's milk." It's a precursor to the end of winter when the ewes are nursing their newly born lambs. Spring and the planting season are right around the corner.
The Romans Celebrate:
To the Romans, this time of year halfway between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox was known as Lupercalia. For them, it was a purification ritual in which a goat was sacrificed and a scourge made of its hide. Thong-clad men ran through the city, whacking people with bits of hide. Those who were struck considered themselves fortunate indeed. This is one of the few Roman celebrations that is not associated with a particular temple or deity. Instead, it focuses on the founding of the city of Rome, by twins Romulus and Remus, who were suckled by a she-wolf -- in a cave known as the "Lupercale".
The Feast of Nut:
The ancient Egyptians celebrated this time of year as the Feast of Nut, whose birthday falls on February 2 (Gregorian calendar). According to the Book of the Dead, Nut was seen as a mother-figure to the sun god Ra, who at sunrise was known as Khepera and took the form of a scarab beetle.
Christian Conversion of a Pagan Celebration:
When Ireland converted to Christianity, it was hard to convince people to get rid of their old gods, so the church allowed them to worship the Goddess Brighid as a saint -- thus the creation of St. Brigid's Day. Today, there are many churches around the world which bear her name.
Purification and Light:
For Christians, February 2nd continues to be celebrated as Candlemas, the feast of purification of the Virgin. By Jewish law, it took forty days after a birth for a woman to be cleansed following the birth of a son. Forty days after Christmas - the birth of Jesus - is February 2nd. Candles were blessed, there was much feasting to be had, and the drab days of February suddenly seemed a little brighter.
Love & Courtship:
February is known as a month when love begins anew, in part to to the widespread celebration of Valentine's Day. In some parts of Europe, there was a belief that February 14th was the day that birds and animals began their annual hunt for a mate. Valentine's Day is named for the Christian priest who defied Emperor Claudius II's edict banning young soldiers from marrying. In secret, Valentine "tied the knot" for many young couples. Eventually, he was captured and executed on Feb. 14, 269 C.E. Before his death, he smuggled a message to a girl he had befriended while imprisoned -- the first Valentine's Day card.
A Celtic Connection:
Serpents in the Spring
Although Imbolc isn't even mentioned in non-Gaelic Celtic traditions, it's still a time rich in folklore and history. According to the Carmina Gadelica, the Celts celebrated an early version of Groundhog Day on Imbolc too - only with a serpent, singing this poem:
Thig an nathair as an toll
(The serpent will come from the hole)
la donn Bride
(on the brown day of Bride (Brighid)
Ged robh tri traighean dh'an
(though there may be three feet of snow)
Air leachd an lair
(On the surface of the ground.)
Among agricultural societies, this time of year was marked by the preparation for the spring lambing, after which the ewes would lactate (hence the term "ewe's milk" as "Oimelc"). At Neolithic sites in Ireland, underground chambers align perfectly with the rising sun on Imbolc.
The Goddess Brighid
Like many Pagan holidays, Imbolc has a Celtic connection as well, although it wasn't celebrated in non-Gaelic Celtic societies. The Irish goddess Brighid is the keeper of the sacred flame, the guardian of home and hearth. To honor her, purification and cleaning are a wonderful way to get ready for the coming of Spring. In addition to fire, she is a goddess connected to inspiration and creativity.
Brighid is known as one of the Celtic "triune" goddesses -- meaning that she is one and three simultaneously. The early Celts celebrated a purification festival by honoring Brighid, or Brid, whose name meant "bright one." In some parts of the Scottish Highlands, Brighid was viewed as Cailleach Bheur, a woman with mystical powers who was older than the land itself. Brighid was also a warlike figure, Brigantia, in the Brigantes tribe near Yorkshire, England. The Christian St. Brigid was the daughter of a Pictish slave who was baptized by St. Patrick, and founded a community of nuns at Kildare, Ireland.
In modern Wicca and Paganism, Brighid is viewed as the maiden aspect of the maiden/mother/crone cycle. She walks the earth on the eve of her day, and before going to bed each member of the household should leave a piece of clothing outside for Brighid to bless. Smoor your fire as the last thing you do that night, and rake the ashes smooth. When you get up in the morning, look for a mark on the ashes, a sign that Brighid has passed that way in the night or morning. The clothes are brought inside, and now have powers of healing and protection thanks to Brighid.

How To Hold an Imbolc Candle Ritual (for Solitaries)
Dr Raven Dolick M.s.D.
Feb 2, 2016

Imbolc is a festival of light -- celebrate it with candles and flames!
Hundreds of years ago, when our ancestors relied upon the sun as their only source of light, the end of winter was met with much celebration. Although it is still cold in February, often the sun shines brightly above us, and the skies are often crisp and clear. As a festival of light, Imbolc came to be called Candlemas. On this evening, when the sun has set once more, call it back by lighting the seven candles of this ritual.
** Note: although this ceremony is written for one, it can easily be adapted for a small group.
Difficulty: Average
Time Required: Varied
Here's How:
1. First, set up your altar in a way that makes you happy, and brings to mind the themes of Imbolc. You'll also want to have on hand the following:
• Seven candles, in red and white (tealights are perfect for this)
• Something to light your candles with
• A large bowl or cauldron big enough to hold the candles
• Sand or salt to fill the bottom of the bowl/cauldron
Prior to beginning your ritual, take a warm, cleansing bath. While soaking, meditate on the concept of purification. Once you're done, dress in your ritual attire, and begin the rite.
2 If your tradition requires you to cast a circle, do so now.
Pour the sand or salt into the bowl or cauldron. Place the seven candles into the sand so they won't slide around. Light the first candle. As you do so, say:
Although it is now dark, I come seeking light.
In the chill of winter, I come seeking life.
Light the second candle, saying:
I call upon fire, that melts the snow and warms the hearth.
I call upon fire, that brings the light and makes new life.
I call upon fire to purify me with your flames.
3. Light the third candle. Say:
This light is a boundary, between positive and negative.
That which is outside, shall stay without.
That which is inside, shall stay within.
Light the fourth candle. Say:
I call upon fire, that melts the snow and warms the hearth.
I call upon fire, that brings the light and makes new life.
I call upon fire to purify me with your flames.
4. Light the fifth candle, saying:
Like fire, light and love will always grow.
Like fire, wisdom and inspiration will always grow.
Light the sixth candle, and say:
I call upon fire, that melts the snow and warms the hearth.
I call upon fire, that brings the light and makes new life.
I call upon fire to purify me with your flames.
Finally, light the last candle. As you do so, visualize the seven flames coming together as one. As the light builds, see the energy growing in a purifying glow.
Fire of the hearth, blaze of the sun, cover me in your shining light.
I am awash in your glow, and tonight I am made pure.
5. Take a few moments and meditate on the light of your candles. Think about this Sabbat, a time of healing and inspiration and purification. Do you have something damaged that needs to be healed? Are you feeling stagnant, for lack of inspiration? Is there some part of your life that feels toxic or tainted? Visualize the light as a warm, enveloping energy that wraps itself around you, healing your ailments, igniting the spark of creativity, and purifying that which is damaged.
When you are ready, end the ritual. You may choose to follow up with healing magic, or with a Cakes and Ale ceremony.
What You Need
•Seven candles, white and red, and something to light them with
•A bowl or cauldron with sand in the bottom

How To Make a Brighid's Crown
Dr Raven Dolick M.s.D.
Feb 2, 2015
all rights reserved
Brighid is the goddess who reminds us that spring is around the corner. She watches over hearth and home, and this craft project combines her position as firekeeper with that of fertility goddess. Make this crown as an altar decoration, or leave off the candles and hang it on your door for Imbolc.
You'll need the following supplies:
• A circular wreath frame, either of straw or grapevine
• Winter evergreens, such as pine, fir or holly
• Spring flowers, such as forsythia, dandelions, crocus, snow bulbs
• Red, silver and white ribbons
• Candles at least 4" long -- tapers are perfect for this
• A hot glue gun
Here's How:
1. Place the wreath form on a flat surface. Using the hot glue gun, attach the candles around the circle.
Next, attach a mixture of winter greenery and spring flowers to the wreath. Blend them together to represent the transition between winter and spring. Make it as thick and lush as you can, weaving in and around the candles.
Wrap the ribbons around the wreath, weaving between the candles. Leave some excess ribbons hanging off, if you plan to hang this on your door or a wall, and then braid it or tie in a bow. If you're using it on an altar, light the candles during rituals to honor Brighid.
What You Need
•A wreath form
•Winter greenery and spring flowers
•Candles
•Ribbons

Deities of Imbolc
Dr Raven Dolick M.s.D.
Jan 31, 2016
all rights reserved
Although traditionally Imbolc is associated with Brighid, the Irish goddess of hearth and home, there are a number of other deities who are represented at this time of year. Thanks to Valentine's Day, many gods and goddesses of love and fertility are honored at this time.
•Aradia (Italian): Popularized by Charles Godfrey Leland in Gospel of the Witches, she is the virginal daughter of Diana. There is some question about Leland's scholarship, and Aradia may be a corruption of Herodias from the Old Testament, according to Ronald Hutton and other academics.
•Aenghus Og (Celtic): This young god was most likely a god of love, youthful beauty and poetic inspiration. At one time, Aenghus went to a magical lake and found 150 girls chained together -- one of them was the girl he loved, Caer Ibormeith. All the other girls were magically turned into swans every second Samhain, and Aenghus was told he could marry Caer if he was able to identify her as a swan. Aengus succeeded, and turned himself into a swan so he could join her. They flew away together, singing exquisite music that lulled its listeners to sleep.
•Aphrodite (Greek): A goddess of love, Aphrodite was known for her sexual escapades, and took a number of lovers. She was also seen as a goddess of love between men and women, and her annual festival was called the Aphrodisiac.
•Bast (Egyptian): This cat goddess was known throughout Egypt as a fierce protector. Later on, during the Classical period, she emerged as Bastet, a slightly softer, more gentle incarnation. As Bastet, she was regarded more as a domestic cat than a lioness. However, because of her position as a guardian, she often was seen as a protector of mothers -- as a cat to her kittens -- and childbirth. Thus, she evolved into the identity of hearth goddess, much like Brighid in the Celtic lands.
•Ceres (Roman): This Roman agricultural goddess was a benefactor of farmers. Crops planted in her name flourished, particularly grains -- in fact, the word "cereal" comes from her name. Virgil cites Ceres as part of a trinity, along with Liber and Libera, two other agricultural gods. Rituals were performed in her honor prior to spring, so that fields could be fertile and crops would grow. Cato recommends sacrificing a sow to Ceres before the harvest actually begins, as a gesture of appreciation.
•Cerridwen (Celtic): Cerridwen represents powers of prophecy, and is the keeper of the cauldron of knowledge and inspiration in the Underworld. In one part of the Mabinogion, Cerridwen pursues Gwion through a cycle of seasons -- beginning in the spring -- when in the form of a hen, she swallows Gwion, disguised as an ear of corn. Nine months later, she gives birth to Taliesen, the greatest of the Welsh poets.
•Eros (Greek): This lusty god was worshipped as a fertility deity. In some myths, he appears as the son of Aphrodite by Ares -- the god of war having conquered the goddess of love. His Roman contemporary was Cupid. In early Greece, no one paid much attention to Eros, but eventually he earned a cult of his own in Thespiae. He also was part of a cult along with Aphrodite in Athens.
•Faunus (Roman): This agricultural god was honored by the ancient Romans as part of the festival of Lupercalia, held every year in the middle of February. Faunus is very similar to the Greek god Pan.
•Gaia (Greek): Gaia is the mother of all things in Greek legend. She is the earth and sea, the mountains and forests. During the weeks leading up to spring, she is becoming warmer each day as the soil grows more fertile.
•Hestia (Greek): This goddess watched over domesticity and the family. She was given the first offering at any sacrifice made in the home. On a public level, the local town hall served as a shrine for her -- any time a new settlement was formed, a flame from the public hearth was taken to the new village from the old one.
•Pan (Greek): This studly Greek fertility god is well known for his sexual prowess, and is typically portrayed with an impressively erect phallus. Pan learned about self-gratification via masturbation from Hermes, and passed the lessons along to shepherds. His Roman counterpart is Faunus.
•Venus (Roman): This Roman goddess is associated with not only beauty, but fertility as well. In the early spring, offerings were left in her honor. As Venus Genetrix, she was honored for her role as the ancestress of the Roman people, and celebrated as a goddess of motherhood and domesticity.
•Vesta (Roman): This hearth goddess of Rome was the one who watched over home and family. As a hearth goddess, she was the keeper of the fire and sacred flame. Offerings were thrown into the household fires to seek omens from the future. Vesta is similar in many aspects to Brighid, particularly in her position as a goddess of both home/family and of divination.

The Story of Imbolc
Dr Raven Dolick M.s.D.
Feb 2, 2016
all rights reserved
At Imbolc the spark of light born at Yule becomes a flame to warm people and the land. Now we see the first signs of spring. The trees are in bud and some flowers (snowdrops for example) begin to blossom. The word 'Imbolc' means 'in the belly', whilst 'Oimelc' means 'ewe's milk'. Both refer to the fact that many ewes are pregnant at this time and in a mild year the first lambs will be born about now. Imbolc is the quickening of the year, the time when the Earth is made pregnant with the promise of summer fruitfulness and the harvest to come.
At Imbolc the Goddess casts aside the robes of Wise One and returns as Maiden, dressed in white. In some groups a Maiden will be chosen and will wear a crown of lights and a white robe or cloak for the ritual. It is worth noting that up until relatively recently, the term 'maiden' was used to denote a female who had not yet given birth to child, so that even an obviously pregnant married woman could be a maiden and take this role in ritual. The God, who was reborn at Yule, is now seen as a young man, full of vigour, and his pursuit of the Maiden starts at this sabbath.
Imbolc is the time when the last of Yule's festive evergreens are removed. In some places it is still traditional to hold on to the (undecorated) Christmas fir until Imbolc, when it is taken and burned on the Imbolc fires. These days few of us can afford to keep the tree in place, especially as our modern forced and treated trees find it hard to keep their needles until January, let alone a whole month later. However, there is a practical alternative. As part of your Imbolc celebrations, take all the Yule and Christmas cards you have been given and recycle them, either making them into gift tags for the following year or cutting out the pictures to give to a local playgroup.
In ancient Rome this was a festival of Pan and the priests of Pan, called the Luperci, would run through the streets dressed in goatskin cloth whipping the people, especially women, to make them fertile for the coming year.
In many parts of the British Isles you will find wells dedicated to Bride or to the Christian St Bridget. Originally these would have been associated with the Goddess. If you are lucky enough to live near one of these, or able to visit one, look for a nearby tree with scraps of fabric tied to its branches. This will be a 'wishing tree'. Many people, whether Witches, Pagans or otherwise, visit these places to make an offering to the Goddess in the hope of having a wish granted. Such offerings are usually a strip of cloth, but it is not unusual to see necklaces of plaited grasses, small posies of flowers and even a child's shoe tied to a wishing tree. If you do visit such a site and wish to leave an offering, try to make it something which will soon return to the earth - a small circlet of grass plaited whilst thinking about your wish, or a hair from your own head, offered as a form of sacrifice. Look in your local press for notices of well-dressing celebrations, as many of these still take place at this time of year.

The legends of Brighid are as old as Ireland itself
Dr Raven Dolick M.s.D.
Feb 2, 2016

Origins of Brighid:
In Irish mythological cycles, Brighid (or Brighit), whose name is derived from the Celtic brig or "exalted one", is the daughter of the Dagda, and therefore one of the Tuatha de Dannan. Her two sisters were also called Brighid, and were associated with healing and crafts. The three Brighids were typically treated as three aspects of a single deity, making her a classic Celtic triple goddess.
Patron and Protector:
Brighid was the patron of poets and bards, as well as healers and magicians. She was especially honored when it came to matters of prophecy and divination. She was honored with a sacred flame maintained by a group of priestesses, and her sanctuary at Kildare, Ireland, later became the home of the Christian variant of Brighid, St. Brigid of Kildare. Kildare is also the location of one of several sacred wells in the Celtic regions, many of which are connected to Brighid. Even today, it's not uncommon to see ribbons and other offerings tied to trees near a well as a petition to this healing goddess.
Celebrating Brighid:
There are a variety of ways to celebrate the many aspects of Brighid at Imbolc. If you're part of a group practice or a coven, why not try Honoring Brighid With a Group Ceremony? You can also incorporate prayers to Brighid into your rites and rituals for the season. Having trouble figuring out what direction you're headed? Ask Brighid for assistance and guidance with a Brighid's Crossroads Divination Ritual.
Brighid's Many Forms:
In Britain, Brighid's counterpart was Brigantia, a warlike figure of the Brigantes tribe near Yorkshire, England. She is similar to the Greek goddess Athena and the Roman Minerva. Later, as Christianity moved into the Celtic lands, St. Brigid was the daughter of a Pictish slave who was baptised by St. Patrick, and founded a community of nuns at Kildare.
In addition to her position as a goddess of magic, Brighid was known to watch over women in childbirth, and thus evolved into a goddess of hearth and home. Today, many Pagans and Wiccans honor her on February 2, which has become known as Imbolc or Candlemas.
Crafts to Honor Brighid:
In many Pagan traditions today, Brighid is celebrated with crafts that honor her role as the protector of the hearth. You can make a Brighid corn doll, as well as a Bride's Bed for her to sleep in. Perhaps the best known decoration is the Brighid's Cross, whose arms represent the place where a crossroads comes together, the space between light and dark.
Brighid and Imbolc:
Like many Pagan holidays, Imbolc has a Celtic connection, although it wasn’t celebrated in non-Gaelic Celtic societies. The early Celts celebrated a purification festival by honoring Brighid. In some parts of the Scottish Highlands, Brighid was viewed as a sister of Cailleach Bheur, a woman with mystical powers who was older than the land itself. In modern Wicca and Paganism, Brighid is sometimes viewed as the maiden aspect of the maiden/mother/crone cycle, although it might be more accurate for her to be the mother, given her connection with home and childbirth.

How Can You Tell if You are an Old Soul
Dr Raven Dolick M.s.D.
Feb 2, 2016
all rights reserved

Are there differences in traits or behaviors? What signs can I look for that can help me differentiate the difference?
Generally speaking, we are all old souls, but some of us have been here longer than others.
The word “old” is only relative to time. Because time is linear and our souls are eternal, 10,000 years would be the blink of an eye.
Many believe that we need to incarnate many, many times as inanimate objects, plants and animals before we can become human. Then, as humans, we still need to incarnate many, many times to learn all of the lessons we came here for. For example, we all had to be an air molecule and a drop of water to learn what it’s like to work together as ONE.
So, how can you tell if you have an old soul?
You understand many of life’s deeper lessons.
For some people, it is hard to fathom that the soul of a child may be much older than the soul of his or her parents. For these particular people, this is a sign that their soul might be younger than yours. When you begin to understand why you keep incarnating to this 3rd dimensional reality, it becomes similar to the movie, Groundhog Day, where Phil wakes up each day to find out that it’s still February 2nd until he learns how to remove his ego and starts doing kind deeds for others.
Once you realize that time, space, energy and matter are 3rd dimensional products, the theory of time becomes irrelevant, thus the theory of how old your soul is also becomes irrelevant.
But for the sake of understanding how old your soul may be, we’ll continue!
You are in touch with your natural abilities or have an extreme interest in these abilities.
Some people are born with innate gifts, such as special healing abilities or psychic abilities. The truth is that we all possess these abilities, but an older soul is more in tune with how to access and implement these abilities in the name of humanity. If you don’t have any particular ability, but have a strong interest in them, this is simply your soul trying to recall these abilities that you may have had in a previous lifetime.
You become spiritually aware.
Everyone is pure consciousness, but many people have a difficult time understand what this means. Your soul is pure consciousness and love. It has a unique understanding of how the matrix is being played on this planet and understands that everything we do as a collective will help to facilitate the awakening of others.
You understand the importance forgiveness.
Some people are old souls who still have much to learn because they are trapped inside the box with their ideologies, are stubborn or have not learned the importance of forgiveness. By forgiving yourself and others, we can release any karma between these people.
You’re able to transcend ego.
It’s nearly impossible for anyone to completely transcend ego 100% of the time but simply being aware of our ego and how it plays against unity consciousness is a definite sign on an old soul. On the other side, there is no ego. During your life review, you will re-live your ego and will see how it affected others, as well as yourself. At this point in “time”, you will probably make a soul contract with the hopes of overcoming ego and atoning for whatever ego issues you had in your previous incarnation.
You’re able to transcend materialism.
Money and materialism are products of this 3rd dimensional reality and it’s easy to succumb to materialism, especially when it’s in your face through advertising, programming and peer pressure. An older soul realizes that money is non-existent on the other side and it generally takes away from who we truly are as spiritual beings. Those who are older souls will generally use money as a tool to either help facilitate their spiritual progression through spiritual retreats or by possibly creating a lavish feng shui home decorated with spiritual meaning versus the most luxurious furnishings. They may also use their money to help others who are less fortunate.
You are able to understand the concept that your body is a shell for your soul.
Before you were born, you not only chose your parents, you also chose your life situations and challenges that would help to facilitate your spiritual growth while atoning for any previous karma. The body that you are currently in is simply a vessel for your soul. Your name is what your soul currently refers it as, but in previous lifetimes, you had many different names and you have lived many previous lives as either a male or a female. Your name and title are both associated with ego because ultimately, you are infinite consciousness and we are all on the same team.
You seem to have a special connection to eras long before you were born.
Did you ever watch an old movie or see some artwork from a specific era in time and have a connection to that era? Chances are, you lived a previous life during that time period and this is your cellular memory letting you know!
You have an understanding of what you need to do to complete your spiritual progression.
Just by making it this far, you are more awakened than most people on this planet. You have an understanding of Universal laws and what is left to do on your soul contract. Even if you are not specifically sure of either, your higher self and spirit guides will continue lead you in the right direction.
You have a strong feeling that home isn’t Earth.
Did you ever look at a random area of the sky and star at an unknown star for no particular reason? Do you have a special connection with specific star systems such as the Pleiades or Orion’s Belt? Do wars and corruption make you feel uneasy, as if they didn’t exist where you originally came from? Are you one of the souls who volunteered to come here at this specific point in time to help with the Earth’s ascension? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then chances are, Earth is not your home planet.
You tend to be a loner.
The stigma on the word loner is often condescending, but those who are old souls are merely looking for other fragments of themselves and will often distance themselves from younger souls who need more incarnations into a 3rd dimensional planet. Older souls will seek out other like-minded people because there’s a comfort and familiarity with these types of people who will help to facilitate each other’s spiritual progression.
You have a rebellious nature.
Whether you rebel from religion, laws or anything else, this is a sign that your soul knows the only true laws… the Laws of the Universe. While you respect the reasoning and intention behind laws and religion, you might not be compelled to use these as absolute laws when you know there are a set of higher laws that are intended to facilitate our spiritual progressions.
You have a burning desire to attain truth and inner wisdom.
Many older souls can easily see through the lies we’ve been taught through religion, politics and through our educational facilities. While they realize they are all one with the universe, they also want the truth exposed to help other people’s awakening process. They also continue to seek knowledge in the spiritual, metaphysical and esoteric fields and will absorb this information much easier than anything they were taught in school.
You are not controlling of others.
Older souls are more accepting, not just of other people, but of circumstances as well. For example, while you don’t approve of the corruption within politics, you understand how the corruption will help to awaken other people to the truth. You respect the free will of others and are more likely to use tact than verbal demands of others. You tend to be more of a team player than anything else.
You sense a separation between yourself and the “real world”.
As you transcend ego and materialism, you find yourself living a different lifestyle. While this lifestyle is unique to your current incarnation, there also seems to be a familiarity of the direction you’re heading.
You are curious whether you’re an old soul or not.
Many young souls wouldn’t ask this question or much less be concerned about it. While many older souls aren’t concerned either, for different reasons, they simply “know” they’re old souls, but it’s nice to have affirmations that coincide with your spiritual progression.
There are many lessons we have learned throughout our lifetimes, all of which has culminated into this particular incarnation. All of your previous life incarnations are embedded into your cellular memory and can be recalled through past life regressions. Most of the people on this planet are old souls, yet many remain unawakened and still have a lot more to learn and will need several more incarnations to a 3rd dimensional planet.
Many of those who are awakened will probably move on to their next level of spiritual progression. It’s important to remember that this is not a race because in the end, we all win. Enjoy every millisecond in this incarnation because this may be the last time you’ll ever experience a 3rd dimensional reality!

Death after Life
Is there life after death?

It’s a passionate conversation and everyone thinks they know how it ends. The atheistsays this is all there is and when you die, you’re dead. Christians say that after you die you will go to Heaven or Hell. Mormons believe that after death, if you’ve been good, you get your own planet. Muslims believe that after death, the men, at least, get 70 virgins. Hindus and Buddhists believe that after death you reincarnate and come back as a higher form of life… Every spiritual practice in the world has some sort of tenet around what happens after you die.
Fundamentalists in every group are so sure that their view is right that they’re willing to destroy their lives and the lives around them to prove their point. In our Christian culture, for example, there aren’t many who haven’t been threatened with some sort of afterlife catastrophe, such as hellfire and damnation and great pain and suffering.
For many of us, though, we’re not thinking in terms of life after death. We’re still trying to figure out life after birth; if we could just get that handled, that life after death thing would take care of itself.
“Reality,” however, doesn’t support any of us. No matter what happens after we die, all we know is now. Whether or not we’ve been here before, all we know is now. Whether or not there’s a Heaven or Hell, all we know is now. The Universe is very stubborn when it comes to life and death. Whatever lies beyond is not allowed here. It’s all about now.
From an evolutionary standpoint, though, this is important. Evolution is about growing and evolving. Evolution takes what is, tweaks it, makes it better, and then passes that on to the next generation. This generation is the foundation for the next generation, which will be the foundation for the generation after that. We are all participating in the growth and evolution of our planet.
Those who believe in some sort of after-death utopia fail to live this life. They put their lives on hold, waiting, hoping for something better. When something goes wrong, they “suffer through it,” knowing that they’re waiting for their reward in the sky.
That is not how evolution works. The reason the Universe only gives us now is because the Universe exists only in this moment. It is expanding, but only into the next moment.
That we only have now may be our contribution to evolution. It’s our evolutionary responsibility to consciously make the world around us better. It’s our evolutionary responsibility to consciously live life, improve it, and pass on a better place to the next generation.
God, a loving God, would expect nothing less. Love would never punish anyone for wanting to make life better for those with whom it interacts. In fact, that’s what love would do. Love would look for all the ways to make life better. Love is compassion and exists to support life.
The evolutionary question is this: “Is the world around us better because we’re here?” If the Universe itself agrees, then we’ve fulfilled our purpose. If the Universe around us says “No,” then we still have time to participate. All we have is now.
Speculation on life and death is sometimes frightening, sometimes fanciful, and sometimes fun, but it’s always speculation. Our evolutionary purpose isn’t to worry about life after death, it’s to figure out life after birth.

Living Past Fear

Many ear candy people saying Embrace your fears and in general yes this is a prerequisite to soul evolution but without know HOW we just become a mass of self explosive energy............. I want to bust through this and offer myself and words to you who truly want to. Please share this lesson freely as I give it. It is the only way we can increase knowledge expansively on a subject not punching through yet. Let Wisdom Finish What Knowledge Started Here!

Living Past Fear
Beloved masters, will you pause with me for a moment and take inventory of your recent accomplishments, and what may seem like defeat or failure to you? I would like for you to take a closer look and come to a better understanding as to what the initiation and ascension processes are all about. You are getting a clearer picture of the workings of cosmic law and the magnificence and complexity of our Sub-universe as the veil of forgetfulness is lifted and you begin to tap into the wisdom of your Higher Self and Super-conscious mind. However, you still have doubts and are confused when you are confronted with some of your old fears and emotions.
All humanity, without exception, is progressing by leaps and bounds-yes, even those who seem to be stuck or mired in victimhood, and karmic interaction of cause and effect, the drama of good and evil or duality/polarity consciousness. Deep within every sentient Being there is a discontent, a yearning, a feeling that changes must be made-that they cannot continue in the same old painful patterns of existence. As you are witnessing, some will choose to vacate the physical vessel, returning to spirit form to await an easier, gentler time to return and continue the journey of physical expression. Others are becoming bold as they reach out into the unknown and find we are waiting there to assist them-and so, they begin to hope and dream as they take control of their destiny.
Just as you must acknowledge, clear and release all negative memories and energies within your physical/etheric, mental and emotional structure, so it is with your Mother Earth as well. This is the source of the "destruction process" that you all fear so much, but it need not be as radically cataclysmic as has been predicted and as you have been led to believe. True, all that is not in harmony with the higher frequency vibrations of the new age must be transmuted, transformed or lifted; however, this can be accomplished by becoming aware of the core beliefs which do not resonate with the more rarified higher fourth- and fifth-dimensional awareness of the future. As you are aware, your Mother Earth is also striving to attain a higher level of God-consciousness. In order to do so, she must clear the negative stream of core memories within the astral plane/her auric field-the maelstrom of negative mass consciousness beliefs of humanity from many past ages. This is where many of you are having difficulties. You are not yet able to discern which are your own core beliefs rather than those created by the many different races, cultures and religions over the many ages past.
As you begin to become aware of and dip into unity consciousness, which creates great wonder, joy and a sense of no longer being alone, it also opens the door for you to tap into those ancient memories of fear, failure, betrayal and shame that others carry in their auric field. You do not get just the positive energies, beloveds; part of your mission is to assist all humanity in becoming aware of its self-limiting beliefs, and the negative, destructive thought forms and actions. That is why there seems to be so much senseless violence, why so many are lashing out in anger and pain. The world of form seems to be crushing and bruising those who cannot face their own creations and acknowledge that they have, indeed, created their own hell-filled world of fear and suffering. They blame everyone and everything but themselves. For without allowing the soul or Higher Self to assist in the healing process, it is just too painful to face their creations, and the ego-desire personality becomes even stronger and more in control of the thought processes and behavioral patterns.
That is why we are "pulling out all the stops," you might say, in order to assist those of you who are the vanguard, those who are opening the way and creating the path for others to follow. The process must be clear; it must be simple and not complicated as the ancient wisdom teachings were, for in the past, the ascension process was designed for the select few. Those of you who are the teachers and the Wayshowers have had or are experiencing all the emotions, fears and setbacks that will confront humanity at large. Many of you have made a great sacrifice and agreed to pass or experience many tests that were not of your own making (but an accumulation of the memory/energy patterns of other parts of your vaster Being). In other words, many of you came with energies composed of many different facets or expressions, which you did not directly experience as a soul, but which you agreed to have placed in your energy (auric) fields and your DNA so that you would have to balance and overcome these imperfections. So, beloved ones, do not judge a beautiful, awakened soul who seems to have had much more than their share of adversity. Honor them; emulate them, for they are smoothing the way for you.
And so, we ask you to observe the patterns of fear and doubt that are emerging, that which is keeping you from moving on to the next level of en-LIGHTEN-ment. Each level has its own tests, trials and pitfalls, and many of you are hindering your progress because you cannot let go of old deep-core energy patterns. Many are still caught in a struggle for power, on the one hand, while creating and performing great deeds of goodness, but still trying to control or force their truths or ways of thinking on others. Many of those who still feel they must serve and sacrifice in order to grow spiritually are being taken advantage of by those who have not learned that what you take from others unjustly, ultimately, you are only taking from yourself. Many are still imprisoned in relationships which are hindering and hurtful, rather than supportive and allowing growth and expansion. They are afraid to step out of the status quo or take responsibility for their own spiritual growth and well-being. So many are afraid to face their nightmares and bad dreams, for they may come to realize they are of their own making, and that they are responsible for their own personal transformation. Stagnation and a sense of futility are the formula for death, beloveds: death of the emotions, death of mental alertness, hopes and dreams, and eventually, death of the physical vessel.
What are your greatest fears right now, dear ones? What obstacles are keeping you from opening that next door to higher awareness and mastery? Before you can accept and wield the gift of the First Ray of Divine Will, you must face and conquer your fears and demons. We have endeavored over the past years to give you the tools and wisdom to accomplish this, but ultimately the task is yours alone. These next years are critical, and we have said this many times before; however, it is important that you become aware of just how quickly the process of evolution, or the ascension of humanity is progressing. If you are to stay on track and keep up with the frequency acceleration of your planet and with those who are reaching for the stars on their way back home, you must come to terms with yourself, with your fears, and your sense of being disconnected from your Higher Self and the realms of Light.
Allow me to give you a gift, an exercise which will help you break through the restrictive walls of your fears and doubts and help you release those patterns that no longer serve you. We wish to impress upon you how harmful the energies of fear are--energies which are keeping you from claiming the gifts of mastery--and how simple it is to move through them.
Stand before a mirror or hold a mirror in your hand and gaze into this mirror as you bring into your mind that which you most fear. Just as we have taught you to fill your body with Light, I now ask you to allow this fear to build as you create and imagine the worst scenario possible that has to do with this fear. Feel it begin to permeate your body, feel it especially in your heart and solar power center, as you move your consciousness throughout your body and feel the restriction, the stress, the crippling energy creep in and permeate your Being. Now look into your own eyes, see the pain, study your facial expression as it changes and ages. Feel the pressure build until you know you can tolerate no more. Now, beloved masters, take several deep breaths as you move deeper and deeper into your Sacred Heart Center and draw forth the Sacred Love of our Father/Mother God from within your Diamond Core God Cell--a precious gift that is always available to assist you through every trial and test. Call upon your OverSoul-Self to fill you with the healing frequencies of the Violet Flame, and with all your senses become aware as this wondrous gift pours through and around you. Can you hold on to the fear or does it dissolve into nothingness as this magic elixir of loving energy permeates your Being?

Again, look in the mirror and see how soft your eyes have become; how youthful is your countenance. Feel the expansion in your heart and the release of the stress and strain within your body and muscular structure. Fear cannot exist where there is Light-where there is love. Breathe in the gift of life--breathe deeply of the Essence of Creation that is being offered to you. When you are in fear, you restrict and cut off the flow of the Pranic substance of life. This may seem like a drastic exercise, but in truth it is a great gift, for many of you cannot progress until you face yourself in the mirror, and allow your fears to be reflected back to you. You will become aware that the fear does not originate "out there," but from within.

More and more of you are becoming aware of your life mission and how important it is. Do not fear to boldly step out, dear ones. Because you are assisting in the healing and resolution of the negative frequency patterns of your ancestral lineage. As you move upward on the Path of Light, you will also have available to you the wisdom and wealth of positive experiences from all the many lives of your soul companions. This is the wonder of unity consciousness. Have you not noticed how many teachers and messengers are bringing forth almost identical information, for they are experiencing the same emotional ups and downs, as well as receiving the same thought impulses? Many of you have gone to gatherings where you felt a deep sense of coming home, of being reconnected with long-lost family or friends. Just as many of you no longer feel in harmony with your physical family, nor seem to have anything in common with friends of long standing. Do not judge; become the observer-allow your Higher Self to supply you with the wisdom you need to move through or overcome any situation or obstacle.

As you move into nonjudgment and are willing to allow the highest outcome to occur in all situations, you will break free of the bonds of fear, and life will become a constant source of wonder, joy and thanksgiving. Claim the gifts that are being offered to you, precious ones, you have earned them. Move through the fog of fear into the Light of the dawning age. Walk boldly with a spring in your step, a smile on your lips and joy in your heart-those behind you are watching, my brave warriors of Light, do not falter now. Show them, as we have shown you; take their hands and support them, even as we have done for you. Tell them that you cannot take on their tasks or burdens, but you can give them the benefit of your wisdom and experience. You will not have to make claims or state what level you have attained. You will not have to try to impress or dominate, for you know within your heart who you are and that is enough.

ALLOW US TO LEAVE YOU WITH SOME FURTHER GUIDELINES
OF HOW TO LIVE EACH DAY AS A MASTER OF LIGHT:
You must learn to identify the source and deal with your own negative thought forms. Often your negative feelings are picked up from those around you, especially if you are a very empathetic person. Learn to surround yourself in a sphere of Golden/white Light in which nothing of a lesser vibration can enter and disturb your tranquility. Everyone on Earth is in the process of clearing ancient memories and thought forms of the past. Be a passive observer when these feelings roil up within. Do not claim them, just observe and state to yourself: "This is anger I am experiencing," or fear, depression, guilt or any other dis-empowering emotion. Envision a blazing ball of Light descending from your Higher Self, bursting into a million tiny, crystalline diamonds rippling throughout your body, transforming and balancing all discordant energies within. Do this as often as necessary.
Shut off your mental auto pilot, and become the director of your journey and your experiences. Tune into your own mental receiving station as you seek thoughts, vibrational patterns and sounds that are uplifting and empowering. Negative, critical thinking is composed of lower, disruptive frequency patterns. If you don't like what is happening in your world, lift your thoughts and change your mind so that you are projecting "balanced, uplifting frequency patterns of thought and intention."
Learn to think with your whole brain--meaning, use both your linear, analytical outward- focused left brain, along with your intuitive, creative, inward-focused right brain. Tap into your genius potential or the Light Packets of wisdom stored within your Sacred Mind, which are attuned to the higher dimensional or the cosmic storehouse of knowledge.
Do not always express or project your emotions toward others. Allow yourself to feel and express whatever emotions you are experiencing, but first analyze and resolve them within your own sacred space. Speak and share only to clarify or clear up a misunderstanding, and always share your thoughts through a filter of love and compassion. This is the way of a master.

Beloved Bearers of Light, as you integrate more of the plasma of renewal and become harmonious purveyors of Light, we are now able to more freely interact with you, and to work through you to create wondrous new things. By agreeing to do so, miracles beyond your greatest imagining will abound. We enfold you in the Light of Life from the heart core of our Father/Mother God and the Supreme Creator. I am ever near to guide and protect you.

What is Spirituality?
It is How We Know God.

Since the time man was first able to form and establish cognitive thought, he began to search for the meaning to the question - 'what is spirituality'. He began to question what his own existence was as well as the meaning of things and events around him and his relationship with them. Man’s intellectual search for meaning led him to the notion of higher planes of existence and higher forces that acted to affect the destiny of mankind. This gradual awakening of man’s thought led to the understanding of himself and the world around him in terms of inner awareness. In as much as the thought of God or a higher being or force can be near impossible to mentally fathom entirely, it becomes possible for us to inwardly feel the notion of God and our connection with Him, and from there we can mentally comprehend that notion or sense in terms of our own experience within. When we begin to comprehend ourselves and the world around us inwardly, without total mental understanding but by intuitive sensing, it is the beginning of our search for 'what is spirituality'.

So, what it spirituality really? Basically, it is the method we use to comprehend God and the vast and complex mysteries and energies that move in and around us. It is the interaction between our inward sense and the various energies and phenomenon that make up life. Spirituality is the essence of mankind’s inner yearning to know and be like God. It is how we define the search for higher meaning that we undertake literally upon our first breath. It is the sensation that runs up our spine when those moments strike where we suddenly sense something mysterious that is a part of us, yet is also a part of everything around us, thus linking us to it.

To be a spiritual person is to be in alignment with God and those aspects of ourselves that strengthen that alignment. We sometimes find ourselves staring off into the distance or into the night sky and something stirs in us and sometimes a tiny piece of the puzzle to our existence falls into place. Those pieces are felt inside of us as much as they become sensory thoughts at the same time. We can sense the vibration or energy within and our brain assigns a thought pattern or memory spot to that sensation, thus our body-mind works in unison to sense and know that which can really not be seen or touched.

Spirituality is more than a state of consciousness or being. It is more than a methodology or means to an end or a lifestyle. Spirituality is who we are and how we interact with the world around us. It is the act of unifying with God and it is the search for meaning within our own existence and our connection to the world and events that shape it.

Becoming a spiritual being leads us to improve our own abilities to access the universe around us in a clear sensory experience. It is realizing our divine inner nature and affecting that spiritual energy into shaping and understanding external influences. As human beings and as children of God, it is within our nature to question our existence and to seek answers to questions that we know may not have answers. We yearn to discover the divine nature within ourselves and eventually, we begin to realize that we are God-like creatures. We begin to understand the world around us as we connect to the elemental energy that creates and unifies all things. The closer we get to our own inner divinity, the more directly we connect with the fields of energy that exist in and around us.

If one were to isolate the concept of spirituality down to bare simplicity, it could be said that the ability for us to understand, unify, connect, utilize and shape the energy fields that make up the structures and forces of life is what we call spirituality. Spirituality is our ability to be at one moment, human, and at the same instant, divine. It is the middle ground between the two. It serves as an area where the physical and the immortal parts of us can connect and align, and during this time, the physical can maintain grounding, yet still experience the limitless frontiers of the immortal.

The true essence or goal of spirituality is to merge the immortal nature of ourselves with the physical – to harmonize and rejoin what was not meant to be separated. The space where the physical and immortal meet is a mystical place where possibility and the essence of higher importance merge; a place where we can begin to understand the mysteries of the world and the energy around us, and how we unify with it.

In order to understand the abstract nature of spiritual phenomenon, we must relate to the world in a spiritual sense; that is to say that we do not relate these spiritual aspects by conscious thought alone, nor can we ever fully comprehend the complexities of the spiritual world by merely sensing at it. We must learn to respond with a knowing, sensing awareness that allows us to cognitively understand the intricacies of spirituality at the same time that we feel the delicate dance of energy weaving through us.

Spirituality is a connection to the world around us that transcends our every day experiences. It is there whether we choose to be aware of it or not. It is the ability and the act of discovering our spirituality that allows us to become God-like beings that occupy a higher plane.

Meanings and Use of the Word "Warlock"
Why it's Seen as Negative by Modern Pagans

In many parts of the Pagan community, mention the word "warlock" and you'll be met with disapproving sneers and head shaking. Mention it to your non-Pagan friends, and they'll automatically think of movie baddies like Julian Sands, or the evil warlocks from Charmed. So what's the deal with the word warlock anyway? Why is it considered such a negative thing in modern Paganism?

Let's look at the different perceptions of warlock. There's one variation in which it's alleged to be a translation of a Saxon word, wǣrloga that means "oath-breaker." Naturally, no one wants to be called an oath-breaker, so folks tend to get up in arms about the use of warlock. Consequently, a lot of Wiccans and Pagans tend to distance themselves from the word.
In the book "ABC's of Witchcraft" by Doreen Valiente, the author states that the word is of Scottish origins, but goes no further in her explanation. Other writers have said that the term was originally used in Scotland to mean a cunning man, or a male witch, but that in recent centuries it has shifted to hold negative connotations. In recent years, dictionaries have expanded on its meaning, including the definition "liar" in the explanation.

Some of this may have to do with misinterpretations of meanings by monks who were trying to convert the Scots from their early Pagan religions to Christianity. After all, if a clan's cunning man was referred to as a warlock, and his activities clearly went against the teachings of the Christian churches, then obviously the word warlock must have connotations of evil.

Some Pagans are trying to reclaim the word warlock, much like the GLBT community has taken back queer and dyke. Partially because of this, a theory that has gained popularity is that warlock may have its roots in Norse mythology. In one of the poetic eddas, a song called the Vardlokkur is sung, to ward off evil spirits during a religious ceremony. The idea is that the Vardlokkur, as applied to a person, is a "spell singer", rather than a liar or oath-breaker.

Finally, the word warlock is used in some oathbound traditions of Wicca to mean a binding or tying. The person who binds an initiate during a ceremony is sometimes referred to as a warlock, or the ties themselves are the warlocks.

So -- what does that mean for today's Pagans and Wiccans? Can a male witch or mage refer to himself as a warlock without a bunch of negative fallout from the others in his community? The answer is a simple one. If you want to use it, and you can justify your use of the word to apply to yourself, then do so. Be prepared to defend your choice, but ultimately, it's your call.
